Local governments are commonly called upon to assist in facilitating mitigation works in response to natural hazards and emergency situations in order to protect persons and property within their geographical boundaries. This facilitation often requires local governments to step in and assume significant risk exposure where they would otherwise not be involved. Our panel will discuss the challenges and potential solutions which would allow local governments to work in concert with the Province without assuming additional risk.
