Description

Traditional mediation often involves an independent third-party shuttling between parties and trying to help them reach compromise. Traditional mediation, however, often does not work for group decision makers or engaging the public, since neither the emotional part of conflict nor the underlying interests get addressed. This interactive session will provide an overview of a new initiative by the League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust to help elected officials, staff of member cities, and even sometimes the public, to better examine diverse viewpoints and interests and then collaborate towards reaching better, more sustainable solutions. This unique, facilitated process has increased efficiencies and satisfaction in local government, while pro-actively managing risk. This session will highlight the process using real life examples and will provide participants with some new skills.
