Lance is the Risk Manager for the City of Kelowna where he is accountable for enterprise risk management, insurance, claims, Bylaw Services, health & safety and corporate security. He also serves as a member of the command group for the Regional Emergency Program of the Central Okanagan Regional District supporting response and recovery to local disasters such as wildfire and flood in BC’s interior. Prior to coming to Kelowna he worked in a variety of risk management capacities for the University of Calgary; where he previously earned a B.Comm. in Risk Management & Insurance and B.A. in Political Science.
Lance is active in the community, he served three terms as Chair of the Okanagan College Board of Governors, and was involved at the provincial level as Chair of the BC Colleges Board Chairs Committee and Chair of a committee reviewing executive compensation in BC’s post-secondary education sector. Currently, he is a member of the Local Government Management Association and coach for Kelowna Minor Football.
Within the national risk management community Lance was instrumental in the creation of the Canadian Communications & External Affairs Committee of the Risk and Insurance Management Society, which he chaired for five years raising the profile of RIMS in Canada and representing risk managers to all levels of government. He spearheaded several RIMS stakeholder consultation responses regarding insurance legislation both federally and provincially. In 2009, he was recognized for this work and received one of RIMS’ top international awards, The Richard W. Bland Award for government relations.
